Fed up of feeling unhealthy or less than your best?
Many people with long term back problems and general health issues could benefit from improving their health habits. For instance, over the past few years many of us have adopted a habit of poor posture whilst working at home or missed out on important exercise. With winter here, it can be harder to stay motivated to exercise and the temptation to fill our diets with non-nutritious food and drink is all the more prevalent.
Over the coming months we will be sending some emails to help you adopt more healthy habits.
Probably the most important topic to consider if you are planning lifestyle changes is your “WHY?”.
- Why do you want to adopt this new habit?
- Is your why compelling enough to overcome the pleasure you derive from the unhealthy habit and the extra effort needed to change it?
Let’s take exercise as an example to get us going.
For me, I like to keep fit so that I can work as a chiropractor and undertake activities with my family.
Why?
Because not only is that how I see myself (my identity) but I also get immense satisfaction from helping patients recover their health and from bonding with my family in activities such as going on long walks etc. These are the factors that keep me motivated, so that when I am struggling, I can easily imagine the great feeling I get from being able to do those activities and that puts me back on track.
What’s your why?
I would love to chat with you about this on your next visit or just drop me an email.
All the best,
Mark Butterworth
